about

“Lady Liberty” is my lofty, wax-poetic meditation on the unreality of the American Dream. It shows how Millennials have been #woke from the Dream’s delusional, white supremacist, racist, sexist,
and classist roots. But! The song’s chorus/refrain, celebrating the “feeling” of “Lady Liberty,” suggests that I and lots of other Millennials desire a new, more inclusive, pluralistic Dream to believe in.

lyrics

Lyrics:

When I was a boy playing make believe
in the city or in the maple leaves,
my arrestless heart was beating;
I couldn't stop myself from dreaming of sky.

Sky blue eyes.

It's like a memory;
it's like a fantasy,
it keeps me going.

Oh, what a feeling, Lady Liberty.
Oh, what a feeling, Lady Liberty.
Lady Liberty.

In Disneyland, she said to me
"Your destiny's awaiting."
So I tried to find it for seven days,
staying up at night, getting drunk and high.

Hi, blue eyes.

It's like a reverie;
it's like a melody,
and here it goes again:

Oh, what a feeling, Lady Liberty.
Oh, what a feeling, Lady Liberty.
Lady Liberty.

(Bridge instrumental)

Oh, what a feeling, Lady Liberty.
Oh, what a feeling, Lady Liberty.
Lady Liberty.
