about

“(One Day) I Got a Helpless Urge" expresses the über Millennial desire to run away from all the problems barreling down on our generation's future (nuclear weapons, climate change, surveillance capitalism,
xenophobia, nationalism, racism, sexism, Trump, etc.). My lyrics suggest that since Millennials became "#connected," a fearful urge to run away from each other and ignore our problems
has become a part of our culture, especially in our social media. This is an urge I experienced myself after graduating from college; for two years after college I contracted my music skillz out to several professional bands and toured with them around the country as a way of running away from my problems at home...

lyrics

You said you felt unrest
or a helpless urge.
So you started walking.
You started walking.
You felt unrest or a helpless urge;
so you started walking away from something

You better run when you can
Run when you can
Run when you can
Run when you can
You are gonna be happier one day.
x2

And I regret I can’t give you what you deserve,
so I’ll start walking.
I’ll start walking.
Because I feel unrest or a helpless urge
since we started talking, becoming something.

I better run when I can,
run when I can.
Run when I can,
run when I can.
I am gonna be happier one day.
x2

We better
(Run when we can x4)
We are gonna be happier one day.
x2
